Catawba Valley Engineering & Testing is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Engineering Field Technician. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in construction, engineering, quality assurance, or gaining hands-on experience with real-world, high-impact projects across the region.
What You’ll Do- Perform field testing, sampling, observations, and inspections of construction materials.
- Conduct Construction Materials Testing (CMT) on concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate, structural steel, fireproofing, and more.
- Complete mathematical calculations, test data reduction, and prepare accurate field and laboratory documentation.
- Communicate daily with contractors, project managers, engineers, and CVET staff.
- Represent CVET professionally while supporting safe, high-quality construction practices.
- A high school diploma or GED (BSCE or EI candidates are also encouraged to apply).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform basic math and follow detailed testing procedures.
- A willingness to work in varying weather conditions.
- Physical ability to lift up to 100 lbs (mostly team lifts due to weight/shape).
- Availability for variable hours and overtime when needed.
- Age 21+ with a clean driving record (required to operate a company vehicle).
- Prior CMT/Special Inspections experience or certifications are a plus. CVET offers competitive compensation for applicable industry certifications.
