Position SummaryThe assistant director of admission events and orientation is an integral member of the Office of Admission and is responsible for the planning, execution and management of all admission events and campus visits for all prospective students at Lenoir-Rhyne University. This individual will be deeply involved in vision setting and implementation for the Lenoir‑Rhyne visit experience, including new student orientation. Campus visits and admission events set the stage for a prospective student’s involvement with Lenoir‑Rhyne and make a profound impact on a student’s decision to attend LR, so a positive experience on campus is critical.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
- Vision setting for admission events, campus visits and new student orientation
- Evaluating the effectiveness of the campus visitor experience to promote continued improvement.
- Managing the Office of Admission’s visit and event calendar
- Planning, executing, and managing admission events, campus visits and new student orientation.
- Supervising the Office of Admission’s graduate assistants and other student employees
- Serving as the primary supervisor for Bears of Distinction and orientation leaders
- Carrying out training for Bears of Distinction, orientation leaders, graduate assistants and the visit concierge
- Partnering with Senior Bears of Distinction to create a retreat schedule for student ambassadors.
- Working closely with Conferences and Events, Dining Services and Security to establish and carry out event needs
- Serving as the point of contact for campus partners regarding admission events, campus visits, and new student orientation
- Partnering with various departments on campus to incorporate relevant offices into the campus visitor experience
- Writing content for event communication and working with the Office of Marketing and Communications to plan relevant advertising for admission events and campus visits
- Working with Academic Affairs, the University Registrar, and the Office of Student Life to create a new‑student orientation experience that adequately prepares students for their time at Lenoir‑Rhyne and promotes retention
- Impeccable organization skills and attention to detail
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- Profound understanding of the admission funnel and recruiting process
- Ability to identify opportunities for engagement for prospective students and their families
- Supervisory experience with an ability to effectively delegate tasks
- Experience creating training materials and carrying out training for direct reports
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to work occasional weekends as needed for admission events
- Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to network effectively with a variety of constituents including students and parents, as well as Lenoir‑Rhyne faculty, staff, and other partners
- Knowledge of event planning in the admission or student affairs realm preferred
- Experience with Slate Technolutions preferred
- Ability to speak and write in Spanish is a plus
- A bachelor's degree is required.
- At least two years of experience in admissions is preferred.
- Previous experience with Slate or other student information systems is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge about LR, its faculty, and its student population is a plus.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Travel for recruitment may be required.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Ability to attend and preside over meetings, events, etc., in person and online.
- Ability to travel with students, faculty, and staff throughout campus.
- Standard office hours M-F 8a-5p, subject to change based on LR needs.
- Occasional evening and weekend work, due to events.
