Catawba Valley Engineering & Testing is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Engineering Field Technician
. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in construction, engineering, quality assurance, or gaining hands‑on experience with real‑world, high‑impact projects across the region.
- Perform field testing, sampling, observations, and inspections of construction materials
- Conduct Construction Materials Testing (CMT) on concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate, structural steel, fireproofing, and more
- Complete mathematical calculations, test data reduction, and prepare accurate field and laboratory documentation
- Communicate daily with contractors, project managers, engineers, and CVET staff
- Represent CVET professionally while supporting safe, high‑quality construction practices
- A high school diploma or GED (BSCE or EI candidates are also encouraged to apply)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to perform basic math and follow detailed testing procedures
- Willingness to work in varying weather conditions
- Physical ability to lift up to 100 lbs (team lifts for heavier loads)
- Availability for variable hours and overtime when needed
- Age 21+ with a clean driving record (required to operate a company vehicle)
Prior CMT/Special Inspections experience or certifications are a plus. CVET offers competitive compensation for applicable industry certifications.
