The Frye Heart Center is partnered with the Duke Heart Network and is the only Duke Heart affiliate in Western North Carolina. Frye is the region’s only comprehensive heart center performing more than 6750 heart procedures each year including open heart surgery. Frye is a Chest Pain Center with accredited PCI, offering 24/7 interventional cardiology with an experienced network of physician specialists and cardiovascular providers.

POSITION SUMMARY OF MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provide professional nursing care to patients during the perioperative phase of treatment.
• Uses principles of aseptic technique to establish and maintain a sterile field
• Performs the role of the circulator.
• Performs the role of the scrub nurse as needed.
• Facilitates efficient completion of the surgery schedule
• Maintains organized work area and participates in daily unit duties.
• Assumes the responsibility of the professional nurse by demonstrating accountability and seeking opportunities for continued growth.
• Attendance policy.
• Performs the role of the RN Specialist.
• Adherence to all core measure initiatives, patient safety goals, and NQF Safe Practices

SUPERVISION Supervised By: OR Nursing Supervisors, Department Director Supervises:
Non- professional staff

REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURES

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing
• Current state of NC Nursing license
• BCLS required

• Experience as a scrub and/or circulating nurse in the OR setting.
• Or completion of RN perioperative orientation program

Other Knowledge or Skills

• Ability to work flexible and sometimes long hours. Call required on weekdays, weekends and holidays.
• Knowledge of an ability to apply AORN recommended practices.
