PACU you has 15 baysand helps patients recover from interventions requiring anesthesia. While rare, most post-operative complications typically occur in the first hour following surgery so this area functions similar to a critical care unit.
POSITION SUMMARY OF MAJORACCOUNTABILITIES
- The post anesthesia care nurse is responsible for assessing and maintaining adequate ventilation, homeostasis and circulation; assessing level of consciousness, providing pain management, and ensuring the safety of the patient until transfer to another unit
- Administers medications and blood products per hospital protocol
- Maintains organized work area and participates in daily unit duties
- Assumes the responsibility of the professional nurse by demonstrating accountability and seeking opportunities for continued growth

Non professional personnel
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
