General Purpose

The Retail Associate ensures customers have a positive shopping experience. Responsibilities include greeting customers, maintaining a clean and organized store, presenting merchandise, and providing excellent customer service while adhering to all company best practices.

Essential Functions
  • Practice safe behaviors and maintain a safe shopping environment.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
  • Treat customers and associates with respect and courtesy, and recognize peers using company programs.
  • Assist customers – register‑trained, answer questions, and handle transactions professionally.
  • Respond promptly to customer service calls and handle issues courteously.
  • Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, disinfecting high‑touch areas).
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the dress code.
  • Perform daily assigned sizing and recovery per best practices.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor, merchandising per guidelines.
  • Understand Loss Prevention Awareness program and merchandise protection standards.
  • Demonstrate integrity, safeguard confidential information, cash, and merchandise.
  • Follow all Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock (MOS) policies.
  • Follow all cash, check, charge card, refund, void, and offline procedures.
  • Demonstrate urgency and maximize productivity by following store best practices.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required
  • Communicate friendly, respectful, and pleasant with customers, associates, and store leadership.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations common in retail environments.
Physical Requirements (ADA)
  • Use all store equipment (PDTs, registers, PC).
  • Stand, walk, and move around the store 100% of the working time.
  • Bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly.
  • Push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.
  • Assignments may require additional qualifications and skills.
  • Stockroom shifts: push, pull, and lift more than 20 pounds regularly.
