Overview:
For doers and makers, Hickory is a bridge between Asheville and Charlotte, located at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains along Interstate 40. The community offers craftsmanship, artistry, and quality, and is home to over 45,000 residents in a 365,000‑metropolitan area.

An employee in this position will work directly for the Hickory Police Department, assigned to the Support Services Division as an unarmed uniformed security aide to assist in patrolling assigned areas throughout the City of Hickory. The employee will conduct security checks on foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle to ensure safety and security of citizens, personnel, and property, file reports, maintain radio communications with the Communications Center, conduct traffic crash investigations, generate electronic reports, and comply with safety‑sensitive requirements.

• Valid Class C driver’s license.
• No felony convictions and must undergo background investigation.
• Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
• Must possess basic computer skills.
• Must be able to work part‑time duty hours that may vary as scheduled.
• Must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.

Work is primarily performed while standing and walking; the employee occasionally lifts light objects. Work is performed inside and outside, where the employee is exposed to cold or inclement weather.

This position has been identified as safety‑sensitive. The employee will be part of a random drug testing pool, with methodology handled by an outside vendor. The employee is expected to complete annual in‑service training related to job responsibilities.
