The Fire Sprinkler Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and functionality of fire sprinkler systems in commercial buildings, residential complexes, and industrial facilities. This position involves inspecting, testing, maintaining, and repairing fire sprinkler systems so they operate effectively in case of fire emergencies.
Essential Functions- Inspection and Testing – Conduct routine inspections to ensure compliance with industry codes and standards (e.g., NFPA) and perform functional tests of sprinkler heads, alarms, pumps, and other components.
- Maintenance and Repairs – Maintain and repair components such as pipes, valves, fittings, and control panels; replace faulty parts; ensure all activities are performed safely and efficiently.
- Documentation – Maintain detailed records and generate inspection reports for clients and regulatory authorities.
- Troubleshooting – Identify and diagnose problems in sprinkler systems and implement effective solutions promptly.
- Compliance and Regulations – Stay up‑to‑date with local, state, and national fire safety codes and ensure all systems comply with applicable standards.
- Emergency Response – Be on‑call for emergencies, respond quickly to system failures or alarms, and coordinate with emergency services during incidents.
- Training and Education – Provide guidance and training to building occupants on fire safety procedures and proper use of sprinkler systems.
- Inventory Management – Maintain an inventory of replacement parts and equipment to enable timely repairs and replacements.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or relevant experience in fire sprinkler maintenance.
- Knowledge of fire sprinkler system components, installation, and maintenance techniques.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work under pressure during emergencies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients and team members.
- Physical fitness and the ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces as necessary.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for on‑site visits.
- Full‑time employment with some weekend work.
- Travel required (40%).
- Subject to frequent interruptions.
