Job Overview
Charles River Discovery is recruiting for a Technical Specialist II to join our High Peak, UK site.
This is an onsite role with expectation of travel to High Peak daily.
The Technical Specialist II role is a laboratory based, hands‑on position with responsibilities in applying technical expertise to support the delivery of a broad portfolio of client projects.
What you’ll be doing- Execute complex protocols independently, troubleshoot technical issues and train junior staff on standard techniques.
- Perform specialist functions within a defined area – robotics, liquid handling and routine automation.
- Perform specialist functions relating to client project work as required.
- Lead implementation of process improvements, coordinate technical activities and mentor junior colleagues.
- Provide timely communication with technical and scientific staff liaising across departments at High Peak.
- Execution of routine technical and non‑technical tasks with high level of competency and minimal supervision.
- Own workload to meet agreed deliverables with awareness of how this impacts the immediate and wider team.
- Adherence to safe lab working policies, with some ability to suggest new ideas and provide solutions for immediate workspace.
- Demonstrate ability to identify range of technical issues, and report to relevant managerial delegate in a timely manner.
- BSc/MSc (preferred) within a relevant scientific discipline.
- Track record of technical expertise in using robotics and liquid handling platforms in a laboratory‑based environment, industry preferred.
- Experience of working at other CROs/biotech/pharma companies is highly advantageous.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management and communication skills. Able to present scientific data to stakeholders competently.
- Able to effectively solve problems and collaborate with project teams to resolve any issues and support implementation as needed.
