Medical Technologist – High Point, Weekend Days

Join our Medical Laboratory team at High Point Medical Center working weekends Fri, Sat, Sun 8:00 AM – 8:30 PM. The Medical Technologist will perform a wide range of laboratory procedures, support critical care departments, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Major Responsibilities
  • Perform, evaluate, and monitor laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated.
  • Monitor workflow and adjust to complete work within appropriate time frames.
  • Evaluate results for clinical significance, validity, and appropriateness; follow policy in reporting and notification.
  • Perform and document calibration, maintenance, and repair of instruments and equipment; recognize indicators of malfunction and implement corrections.
  • Document and review quality control and quality assurance activities; evaluate results and take corrective action when needed.
  • Ensure specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing; collect specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients per protocol.
  • Provide training, competency review, and technical assistance to medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff; assist in developing education protocols and instruct students, residents, and new team members.
  • Improve quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures, policies, and processes; ensure compliance with accrediting agency standards and support CAP regulatory requirements in an acute setting.
  • Perform internal and external proficiency testing with patient samples.
  • Perform specialty testing in transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry; support institution‑specific accreditations by meeting turnaround time goals.
  • Provide direct support and timely, accurate results for critical care departments (ED, ICU, OR) during high acuity events, including transfusion services, attending codes, tissue grinding, Gram stains, mass casualty procedures, and mass transfusion procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to patient age groups and develop age‑specific care as outlined in departmental policies.
Education, Experience & Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory sciences, Medical Technology, or related field plus completion of an NAACLS Medical Technologist program, five years of clinical lab experience, or two years of clinical lab experience with MLT certification.
  • Previous experience as a Medical Technologist preferred.
  • Medical Technologist (MT) ASCP certification required.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
  • Flexibility to work a schedule that may include alternate site assignments.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Frequently lift up to 10 lb; occasionally up to 50 lb.
  • Must sit, stand, and walk for majority of workday.
  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, radioactive and/or infectious agents.
  • Will be exposed to human blood and body fluids.
  • Must wear appropriate lab coat, gloves, gowns, and eye/face protection as needed.
  • May require travel and be exposed to inclement weather and adverse road conditions.
  • Operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
