SEN Community Outreach Mentor

Approximately 9:00am - 3:00pm (subject to confirmation closer to start date).

About the Role

As a Community Outreach Mentor, you will support a small caseload of up to five students, delivering education and mentoring within community-based settings such as libraries, learning hubs, and other suitable locations. You will provide engaging and personalised learning across a range of subjects, helping students build confidence, develop essential skills, and achieve positive educational outcomes. This role combines elements of teaching, tutoring, mentoring, and pastoral support, making it ideal for individuals who enjoy building meaningful relationships and adapting their approach to meet individual student needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver tailored lessons in English, Maths, and Science up to GCSE level.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group educational support within community settings.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with vulnerable young people.
  • Support students with a range of SEND needs, including Autism, ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and learning difficulties.
  • Develop individualised learning plans to support academic progress.
  • Monitor, record, and report on student engagement and achievement.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, families, and external professionals.
  • Promote attendance, wellbeing, resilience, and personal development.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Experience working with young people with SEND and/or Alternative Provision backgrounds.
  • Confident teaching or tutoring English, Maths, and Science up to GCSE level.
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
  • Teaching qualification, tutoring experience, youth work, mentoring, or SEN support experience would be highly desirable.
Essential Requirements
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Access to your own vehicle for daily travel between community locations.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.
