Who You AreWe are looking for talented individuals who can contribute to our growth and deliver results. As a Vehicle Systems Engineering Intern, you will help grow Geotab's world‑class vehicle support by researching new vehicles, reverse engineering their systems, and automating the process with software tools.
What You’ll DoYour key responsibilities include gaining access to vehicles in person and remotely worldwide, reverse–engineering vehicular systems—electrical, hardware, communications systems, protocols, and legislation. You will build software tools in C# and Python, develop big‑data dashboards using Google Big Query, use our in‑house CAN analysis software to reverse‑engineer vehicles, diagnose vehicle issues, and more.
You’ll work closely with development teams across Big Data, Firmware, Software/ Mobile Development, and Hardware teams, implementing new initiatives and contributing to product development cycles through proof of concepts and beta testing.
Success requires you to be a self‑starter with strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical and project management abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple timelines and priorities to ensure timely results.
The Opportunity- 8–12 month work term beginning September 2026.
- Full‑time, paid internship:
Monday–Friday, 37.5 hours/week. - Your first week begins with ‘GEO Launch’—a one‑week Employee Orientation.

- Reverse engineer vehicular systems—electrical, hardware, communications systems, and protocols.
- Document and design methods to collect data from vehicles in a digestible format for Geotab’s hardware and software teams.
- Support the global reverse‑engineering vision by contributing to the design and implementation of software tooling.
- Use cloud‑based data warehouses such as Big Query and Google Cloud Compute for automated analysis of vehicle data and identification of vehicle support gaps.
- Assist in the product development cycle through proof of concepts and execution of beta testing.
- Collaborate with development teams across Big Data, Firmware, Software/ Mobile Development, and Hardware teams.
- Apply strong analytical, project management, communication, and technical problem‑solving skills to manage multiple timelines and deliver results.
The Role
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Electrical, Automotive, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with CAN and CAN bus—an asset.
- Strong programming skills and a knack for learning new languages.
- Familiarity with C#, Python, SQL, MATLAB.
- Experience with CANalyzer, Simulink—an asset.
- Multidisciplinary background.
- Understanding of vehicle architectures, including hybrid and electric vehicles.
- Hands‑on vehicle experience—diagnosing problems with your own car.
- Self‑starter, results‑oriented, strong time‑management, and excellent communication skills.
- Interest in new mobility technologies, telematics, vehicles, green technologies.
- Valid driver’s license with at least one year of driving experience.
