Operations Manager
Job posting end date: 06/30/2026
INTRODUCTIONIf you are a commercial product leader who likes turning technical equipment into profitable growth, this role gives you ownership of our combustion systems products – a high value business with clear room to grow. Metso’s burner technology fires our customers’ kilns and supports the wider thermal‑processing portfolio.
This is not a maintenance role where the strategy is already fully set. Your role will develop a focused strategy to capture more of the market and exceed our customer’s needs.
THE TEAM YOU BELONG TOYou’ll join Metso’s pyro (thermal‑processing) business and be part of the pyro leadership team, working closely with other product, sales and engineering leaders to grow the portfolio. The role has no direct reports. Instead, you’ll lead through influence across a wider global team, to keep product development aligned to the strategy. Our pyro team is mostly in York (USA) and High Wycombe (UK), with additional colleagues in other global locations.
Day to day you’ll collaborate with engineering, sales and market‑area teams, proposals, project management and marketing – most days involve talking with people from different parts of the world. At High Wycombe, you’ll be a key senior person in the office and a natural local leadership presence that helps build the office culture.
In your first 6 to 12 months, you’ll:
- Develop a clear product strategy: choose the industries and customers worth focusing on and define how the product must adapt to win there.
- Review pricing levels across the portfolio to align with market expectations.
- Diagnose the main roadblocks to growth and build the fixes into your strategy.
Your core responsibilities include:
- Own the profitable growth of the combustion systems business, including the product development roadmap and full lifecycle management.
- Stay close enough to engineering and sales to turn customer and market input into the right product development priorities.
- Take commercial ownership of product‑related decisions, including pricing, portfolio logic, installed‑base tracking, competitor activity, and warranty‑related topics.
- Help shape the plant audits offering as a way to showcase Metso’s expertise and position us as solution‑focused.
- Deploy new products to the Market Areas with the training and support materials to land them, and focus marketing on the priorities that move the business.
Required qualifications:
- A commercial, sales‑oriented mindset. You can take a strong product and turn it into a profitable business.
- The ability to bridge technical depth with commercial strategy.
- About 10 years of professional experience overall, typically in a commercial, product management or technical‑sales role. Some part of your background should connect to combustion systems, kilns, thermal processing or comparable industrial process equipment.
- Fluent English.
Preferred qualifications:
- A degree in engineering, business or a related field. An engineering background is useful, but not required if you bring the commercial capability and enough technical foundation to learn the product in depth.
- Experience with relevant customer environments such as iron ore, pulp and paper, metal refining, industrial heat treatment or other heavy‑process industries.
- Customer‑facing experience in industrial services, capital equipment or technical solutions, with an appetite for change management and leading change.
This is a role with real ownership. The product has strong fundamentals and a small share of its market, which means room to grow and the freedom to define the strategy rather than inherit one. Your work sets the direction for a business we aim to roughly double over three years, and because the burner is the commercial entry point to Metso’s wider portfolio, your impact reaches well beyond a single product line.
You’ll also have a visible local role in the High Wycombe office, with real influence over how the site works and feels. International collaboration is part of the rhythm here: you’ll work with colleagues and customers across several countries most weeks.
Metso is committed to pay equity and transparent reward practices globally. Compensation information is shared in line with local legislation and applicable recruitment practices.
Metso is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workforce culture. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, color, nationality, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, status as a protected veteran or status as a qualified individual with a disability.
