Job SummarySenior Tax Manager supports the Group Head of Tax & Treasury in the management of tax matters across the Taylor Wimpey Group. The role takes a leading position in the delivery of the Group's tax compliance, reporting, governance and advisory activities, helping to ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations while providing high-quality, commercially focused tax support to regional business units and head office functions.
Working closely with the Group Head of Tax & Treasury, the Senior Tax Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of key tax activities, identifying opportunities to optimise the Group's tax position in line with its responsible tax strategy and supporting the effective management of tax risk.
Primary ResponsibilitiesBusiness advice
- Provide commercially focused tax advice to business units and head office functions across a wide range of activities, covering corporate tax, employment taxes (including CIS), VAT and stamp taxes, engaging external advisers or escalating matters to the Group Head of Tax & Treasury as appropriate.
Tax Compliance, Reporting & Budgeting:
- Manage the delivery of the Group’s tax compliance obligations in respect of Corporate Tax, Employment Taxes (including CIS), and Stamp Taxes regulations.
- Managetaxreporting activities including external full year and interim reporting, statutoryaccountsand internal budgeting for both the Group and tax department.
- Provide oversight and support to the Indirect Tax Manager in relation to the Group's VAT compliance obligations.
- Drive activity to review and enhance internal processes and controls to support compliance.
- Ensure any HMRC compliance activity is managed promptly and to a high standard.
- Drivea culture of continuous tax compliance improvement ensuringpracticesand processes are regularly reviewed, enhanced, andoptimised, making use of technology.
Governance and
Risk Management:
- Support the Group Head of Tax & Treasury inmaintainingand enhancing the Group's tax governance framework.
- Leadaprogrammeof internal tax assurance work to assess the effectiveness of tax controls andidentifyareas for improvement.
- Maintain and continuously improve robust tax accounting arrangements across the UK group to ensureaccurateandtimelytax compliance.
- Maintain and enhance the Group’s approach to compliance with the SAO and Corporate Criminal Offence legislation.
- Maintain high leveland detailed tax risk registers, updating them periodically to reflect any changes in the business environment.
- Assist with preparation of tax governance reporting for senior management and relevant governance forums.
Stakeholder Communication and
Collaboration:
- Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders including Finance, Commercial, Land, Legal, HR, IT and Group leadership teams.
- Support the preparation of updates and papers for senior management, the Group Finance Director and executive stakeholders.
- Ensure the tax teamremainsengaged in projects and initiatives where tax input can add value.
- Maintain professional and constructive relationships with HMRC and advisers.
