Job Description

As directed by the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve, this position assists departments and areas as they create programs, products and initiatives that move forward the mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑Day Saints.

Under the direction of the area presidency, this position manages all Correlation policies, processes, and procedures—as established by the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve—to protect the Church. They perform a “regulatory” Correlation oversight role related to product planning/budgeting, IP, data privacy, visual identity, doctrinal accuracy, and research for all area employees and volunteers involved with publishing and messaging. To do this effectively, they must be “taken seriously” by other area staff members, including area directors, and viewed as a representative of the Correlation Committee (First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve) and the area presidency.

This position is an individual contributor role that:

  • helps the area presidency to make strategic decisions about published products—including supervising the “opt‑in” annual planning and budgeting process with all area staff.
  • supervises all product planning, doctrinal review, intellectual property (including visual identity and data privacy) review, and research activities in the area.
  • manages the Area Materials Evaluation Committee (a group of experienced, doctrinally sound former local Church leaders called by the area presidency) who review content being created for doctrinal accuracy.
  • has the authority to freeze the publishing budget and stop publishing work if it does not have a certified product plan or if it is not in alignment with approved Church policy and procedures.
  • manages all outside contractors and vendors performing research for the area.
  • reports directly to the area presidency for all Correlation functions and represents the area presidency to all area staff members in Correlation‑related matters.

The area DTA helps manage any administrative or operational needs this position may have. Strategy, standards, processes, and training for this position come from the Correlation Department.

  • all publishing projects are reviewed to ensure clearly defined audience(s), purpose(s), and goal(s), and success measure(s) before production begins.
  • all individual production deliverables (e.g., videos, pamphlets, and social media posts) have a Publishing Deliverable #.
  • the area presidency is adequately supported in reviewing and responding to the annual product language survey from Correlation.

  • area‑created products and projects are designed and developed with appropriate formative research, as needed.
  • area‑created products and projects are evaluated with appropriate summative research, as needed.
  • Correlation Research approves in advance any units, leaders, members, missionaries, or others before they are asked to participate in research.
  • local research contractors and vendors are properly hired and supervised.
  • Correlation Research has any needed area support when conducting Church‑Headquarters‑sponsored research in the area.
