5)

A highly regarded band 5 staff nurse role in the Cardiac and Stroke Receiving Unit (CSRU) at Wycombe Hospital. The CSRU is a 24‑hour emergency service providing acute cardiac and stroke care, including thrombolysis and Monday‑to‑Friday PPCI service.

• Acts at all times in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and the scope of Professional Practice, promoting professional standards among team members.
• Maintains professional working relationships with all members of the cardiac team and contributes to the team’s continual development.
• Provides nursing assistance to the medical team during procedures and investigations.
• Undertakes the nursing assessment of patients, including risk assessments (tissue viability, moving and handling, nutrition); devises a nursing care plan based on the assessment and the medical prescription.
• Ensures planned nursing care is delivered safely and effectively, taking into account the views of patients and their relatives, and advises on health promotion and illness prevention.
• Writes and updates patient care plans as appropriate.

• Evidence of further continued professional development
• First Line Management Course
• Hold or be working towards an NMC‑approved mentoring qualification

• Experience of teaching students, HCA’s and qualified staff.
• Understanding of the role of a registered nurse and ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
• Awareness of current professional nursing issues and demonstrates an understanding of audit/quality improvement.
• Post‑registration experience working in an acute hospital setting.

• Able to travel to other sites and off‑site as necessary.

• Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to negotiate.
• Ability to manage and prioritise own caseload with supervision.
• Ability to solve problems and use initiative.
• Awareness of the NHSE guidance of clinical governance to continuously improve quality of care, e.g. quality, safety and ward audit standards.
• Knowledge of the NMC code of conduct.
• Willingness to develop teaching skills.
• Basic IT skills.
