Mechanical Technician

Location: Wycombe Hospital, High Wycombe

Division: UK&E, Health

Reporting to: Estates Supervisor

Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 08:00-17:00

On-call: Participation in an out-of-hours on-call rota (17:00-08:00)

The Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Technician to join our Estates team at Wycombe Hospital. You will be responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and reliable maintenance of mechanical services, plant, and equipment across the hospital site, supporting the smooth operation of critical healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out reactive repairs, fault finding, servicing, commissioning, and maintenance on a wide range of mechanical services, plant, and equipment
  • Complete Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) in line with schedules and best practice
  • Work in accordance with Serco policies, procedures, workplace regulations, and industry best practice
  • Take a proactive approach to health & safety, contributing to the development and review of systems, work instructions, and safe working practices
  • Ensure the safety of yourself and others at all times and use PPE as required
  • Accurately record attendance using the Computerised Time & Attendance System
  • Communicate unresolved faults, defects, and spare parts requirements to supervisors or managers
  • Attend on-site and off-site training as required
  • Be flexible to work beyond normal hours in exceptional circumstances
  • Understand how the technician role contributes to contract performance and wider company objectives
  • Participate in the on-call rota outside of normal operating hours

You will also be prepared to take on Authorised Person duties (training provided), which may include pressure systems, Legionella Responsible Person, ventilation, and medical gas responsibilities.

About You
  • Completion of a recognised Mechanical Apprenticeship or relevant structured training programme
  • Appropriate City & Guilds and/or BTEC qualifications
  • Proven experience working in a similar environment
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of mechanical building services
  • Good communication skills with a customer‑focused approach
  • A proactive, responsible attitude with a strong commitment to health & safety
Additional Information
  • Authorised Person duties attract additional payment on top of salary
  • Full training will be provided for Authorised Person responsibilities
