Purpose of Position
:
The Department of Physics, Geology, and Engineering Technology seeks to create a database of potential part-time instructors who are qualified to teach courses in engineering technology. Note that there is not a specific position associated with this posting. Applications will be used to create a database of potential instructors.
- Teaching responsibilities for labs: create a syllabus and schedule of labs in consultation with the course coordinator and lecture instructor; set up lab equipment before and taking it down after each class; supervise and guide students during class; grade work submitted by students; enter grades in the Canvas learning management system.
- Teaching responsibilities for lectures: create a syllabus and schedule that matches the course description and satisfies learning objectives in consultation with the course coordinator and program director (if applicable); work with lab instructors to set the schedule of lab exercises and grading expectations (if applicable); hold classes as scheduled; assign and grade homework; write and grade exams; use the Canvas learning management system;
report attendance and submit mid-term and final grades on time. - For both labs and lectures: be available one hour per week outside of scheduled class time to answer student questions.
Candidates must meet the following minimum educational qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- At least 18 credit-hours of graduate coursework in engineering, in engineering technology, or in a related field or equivalent work experience
