Reserve Firefighter - Open to YSMN Tribal members and Tribal community members
Under the supervision of the Fire Captain, the Reserve Firefighter accomplishes a variety of duties in the protection of life and property. The role involves combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires as well as providing emergency medical care, rescue, and protection of individuals from hazardous environments. The firefighter maintains the fire station, grounds, and equipment, and participates in fire prevention inspections, training, and suppression exercises.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
- Provides courteous and expeditious customer service to employees, the general public, and Tribal citizens while maintaining confidential information.
- Responds to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials situations, and other emergency/non‑emergency calls to protect life and property.
- Performs all firefighter duties: lays and connects hoses, directs water streams to extinguish fires in structures, brush, and grass, and uses forcible entry tools, ladders, extinguishers, and other equipment.
- Raises and climbs ladders; ventilates structures; accomplishes salvage operations.
- Administers emergency medical care, performs Basic Life Support (BLS), and assists paramedics with Advanced Life Support (ALS).
- Operates a two‑way radio to communicate with the communications center.
- Participates in fire prevention programs and inspections to enforce fire prevention codes and ordinances.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
- Must be an eligible member of the Tribal Community.
Skills And Abilities
(KSA)
- Principles and practices of fire suppression and prevention.
- Principles and practices of emergency medical care.
- Operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment.
- Safety practices and precautions pertaining to emergency services.
- Ability to learn local streets, fire alarms, fire hydrants, public and local government buildings, and local hazards.
- Read and understand departmental policies, rules, regulations, and instructions, including fire prevention & suppression literature and emergency medical care instructions.
- Communicates clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing.
- Analyzes situations and adopts a quick, effective, and responsible course of action.
- Basic knowledge of computers and programs, including MS Office, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Able to commit to a minimum of 24 hours per month to station coverage as well as 8 hours of training per month at the fire station.
- Monthly hours range from 24–48 hours, however, hours may exceed 48 if needed in the event of an emergency.
- Demonstrates pride in maintaining a clean, safe work environment for guests and co‑workers, and consistently addresses or reports unsafe conditions.
- At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
- EMR/EMT‑I (must be valid in State of California).
- Current AHA CPR Healthcare Provider or equivalent.
- Hazardous Materials First Responder Operational (CSTI or equivalent).
- ICS 100–Introduction to Incident Command System.
- ICS 200–Basic Incident Command System.
- IS 700 – NIMS:
An Introduction. - Complete minimum training hours (226 hours) to be certified as a Reserve Firefighter.
- Fire Control III and Fire Control VII.
- S 190.
- One (1) year experience as a firefighter (career, volunteer, or PCF).
- Authorized Driver:
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record to operate Tribe‑owned vehicles or patron vehicles.
- Primary work environment is indoors and outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions, including exposure to extreme heat, smoke, fumes, odors, vibrations, loud noises, hazardous materials, and noxious gases.
- Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences.
- Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
- Must be able to work in a fast‑paced, high‑demand environment.
