Systems Engineer, Software Engineer
Job Description
The coolest jobs on this planet… or any other… are with Lockheed Martin Space
OverviewAt the dawn of a new space age, Lockheed Martin is a pioneer, partner, innovator and builder. Our people are on a mission to make a difference in the world and every day we use our unique skills and experiences to create, design and build solutions to some of the world's hardest engineering problems. Our culture encourages employees to dream big, perform with excellence and create incredible products.
We provide the resources, inspiration and focus and if you have the passion and courage to dream big, we want to build a better tomorrow with you.
Going to space is just the beginning. It’s what you do when you get there that matters. Lockheed Martin builds the satellites and spacecraft that do amazing things in space for government and commercial customers. Connecting people. Advancing discovery. And protecting what matters most. Lockheed Martin-built satellites give earlier warning of severe weather, connect troops on the battlefield, and deliver GPS directions to a billion people worldwide.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Systems Engineer to join the Responsive Flight Solutions (RFS) Demos team within IGNITE, initially supporting the Lynx program. The RFS Demos team has a portfolio of on-orbit technology/mission demonstration programs. The team is structured to have an execution-focused core team (PM and SEIT functions) for each program, with support from the enterprise for supplementary skills and subject matter expertise.
The RFS Demos team is responsible for the entire program life cycle, from conception through post-launch support.

- Act as a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance, prioritizing and managing multiple tasks.
- Strategic thinker who disassembles complex, high-level problems into manageable, actionable components.
- Lead the team in executing plans and make decisions in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
- Communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in system-level requirements definition, design, development and test phases.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience/combined education.
- Knowledge of spacecraft architecture, design and integration (prior experience in LM common satellite bus architecture preferred).
- Experience integrating subsystems and/or components to meet system and/or subsystem requirements.
- Experience with design and development of complex hardware, software, components, subsystems, or systems.
- Ability to absorb technical detail and logically formulate solutions for execution on a constrained schedule.
- Strong communication skills and experience building working relationships across internal and external teams.
- Experience defining and implementing systems engineering processes appropriate to mission class and risk posture.
- Experience in Class C/D, IRAD, or “go-fast” development environment.
- Experience identifying and managing risks, including targeted risk reduction.
- Demonstrated systems thinking, including the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, establish and maintain a big-picture mindset, and assess design decision impacts.
