The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides direct client care, assessing, diagnosing, planning, and prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment of health problems, health promotion and preventive care within an outpatient setting.
Essential Responsibilities- Perform psychiatric diagnostic evaluations and treatment strategies for clients with mental health, substance use, or other psychiatric and medical needs.
- Provide psychiatric and medical services within reasonable medical standards and timelines.
- Apply medical knowledge to diagnose, prevent, and treat illnesses.
- Maintain timely, complete, accurate, and legible medical records.
- Document clinical/billing in compliance with regulations and coding standards.
- Order and monitor pharmacologic treatment strategies and medications.
- Order and assess appropriate laboratory tests and diagnostics.
- Coordinate care with multidisciplinary team and other specialty providers.
- Assure timely access to care, meeting productivity standards.
- Assume client care responsibilities inclusive of psychiatric evaluation, professional diagnoses and prescribing.
- Collaborate with MD/DO for challenging or complex cases; elevate to higher levels of care when necessary.
- Provide medication and health education, informed consent, benefits, risks, and alternative treatments.
- Conduct Telemedicine technology appointments for intake and follow‑up encounters.
- Remain in compliance with state laws, regulations, CME and supervised hour requirements.
- Attend weekly supervisory meeting with physician or as deemed appropriate by supervising physician or Chief Medical Officer.
- Assist as required by supervisor with other duties as assigned.
- Masters or doctorate from an accredited nursing school, completion of an accredited PMHNP program.
- At least one year of experience as a PMHNP preferred.
- Current licensed practitioner with full and unrestricted licensure in the state of practice and active state DEA license.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
