Description
The Cardiac Stress Test (CST) Registered Nurse (RN) or Exercise Physiologist (EP) will be responsible for professional patient care of the cardiac patient and achieving total patient centered care. The CST RN or EP will also be responsible for performing procedures including exercise and pharmacological cardiac stress testing with and without nuclear imaging and echocardiography.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Supports and promotes an environment conducive to the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
- Promotes a therapeutic relationship with patients and families.
- Will be responsible for development and management of the CST lab.
- Will assist in policy development and review of CST lab.
- Scheduling of CST patients in conjunction with Cardiologist’s office.
- Ensure CST are scheduled within the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Ensure orders and patient information is received from ordering Cardiologist.
- Review diagnosis(s) provided for CST to ensure it is an approved diagnosis by insurance or Medicare provider.
- Contact each patient pre-procedure to provide appropriate instructions.
- Obtain medical information, chief complaints, medication, and diagnostic test results in preparation for procedure and document in the medical record. Notify Cardiologist of any abnormal results or concerns in a timely manner.
- Ensure consent for procedure is obtained.
- Initiate and assist with IV insertions.
- Delivery of medication by all routes and emergency medicines with a doctor’s order.
- Perform assessment, evaluation, and monitoring during cardiac stress tests.
- Gives appropriate pre and post procedure instructions to patients and documentation of education in the EHR.
- Meet the expectation of the Cardiologist through accurate data collection from the CST procedure with communication and follow up.
- Must have the ability to work independently, professionally, and respectfully with team members, providers, and patients as well as their support person(s).
- Must have excellent communication skills for all interactions.
- Must function as a positive role model while following the standards of behavior.
- Ability to be open to change and assume additional responsibilities or tasks as directed and complete in a timely manner.
- May be cross trained to work other areas in the facility utilizing nursing skills and techniques necessary to meet patient needs and provide quality care.

- Completes assigned daily duties.
