Pharmacy Technician
The pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in preparing and distributing drugs, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist and do not perform duties that can only legally be performed by a registered pharmacist.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy of Hillsboro Health to continually improve our performance to those we serve.
- Procure and distribute drug orders by provider request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols within specified timeframe.
- Maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies, procedures, and protocols and within specified timeframe.
- Maintain patient profiles accurately by promptly entering new orders and changes from providers.
- Contribute to the effective operation of the department.
- Manage Pyxis Med Station.
- Participate in the quality improvement activities of the department.
- Participate in improvement activities that affect pharmacy inventory and cost.
- Maintain competency required for current job title/position.
- Prepare intravenous sterile preparations and chemotherapy once appropriately trained.
- Perform patient interviews face‑to‑face or by phone as needed to obtain an accurate medication history to aid the Admission Medication Reconciliation Process.
- Perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified times.
- Work cooperatively with hospital and pharmacy staff.
- Communicate effectively with providers, nurses, pharmacists, hospital personnel, and patients.
- Handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
- Set priorities and solve problems.
- Foster a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members.
- Meet the pharmaceutical care needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, rehabilitation and skilled‑nursing patients.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Education:
High School graduate or equivalent. - Hospital and IV compounding experience preferred.
- Valid technician licensure through the State of Illinois.
- Certification from the Pharmacy Technician Board.
- Physical demands:
Repetitive use of hands and fingers; medium lifting and carrying light loads up to 25 lbs; walking or standing for long periods (4‑8 hours); ability to operate equipment used in the job. - Work environment:
Well‑lighted, well‑ventilated, heated, air‑conditioned environment; low level noise.

Salary$22.00 - $27.00 per hour
