DescriptionA Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) assists patients with activities of daily living and helps maintain a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the RN/LPN in charge of the team or unit. Scheduled workdays and times vary and will include weekends and holidays.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
- Assist patients to ensure their cleanliness, grooming, nourishment, rest, activity, and elimination in a manner conducive to the patient’s comfort and safety.
- Take and record vital signs, height, weight, intake and output, and measurements as applicable, in an accurate and precise manner.
- Notify nurse of changes in patient’s condition in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Keep written notes of specific assignments and record pertinent information about the patients.
- Promptly answer call lights.
- Transport patients as needed throughout the facility.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information.
- Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of equipment, work, and storage areas.
- Keep patient rooms neat and clean.
- Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
- Be knowledgeable of general hospital policies and procedures.
- Other duties may be assigned and are subject to change with or without prior notice.
- Complete assigned daily duties.
- Accept reassignment to other units if necessary.
- Follow expected work practices.
- Display thoroughness and accuracy of work.
- Work in a safe manner, including reporting unsafe equipment or environment.
- Be well organized, accept assignments willingly, and accomplish them quickly.
- Anticipate problems and suggest solutions.
- Help with duties not specifically assigned.
- Work steadily and always keep busy.
- Maintain knowledge and skills necessary to communicate and interact with patients, visitors, and staff in the following age groups:
Infant, Pediatric/adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric. - Work well with a diverse team.
- Work under pressure with time constraints.
- Concentrate effectively.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Have good mental health and emotional maturity.
- Maintain good personal grooming and hygiene.
- Recognize and respect the individual emotional, social, and cultural needs of patients, including their religious beliefs.
- Preserve the dignity and respect of all patients.
- Display knowledge of sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment, and procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and practice Universal Precautions.
- Be willing to perform a variety of minimal repetitive tasks that may involve unpleasant conditions and maintain patience and tact.
- Possess a genuine interest and concern for geriatric and disabled persons.
Education and/or Experience
- Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
- Graduation from high school or GED is preferred.
- Must have the ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- CNA experience is helpful.
- Successful completion of a vocational program for nursing assistants including the State of Illinois Competency Exam or completion of required portion of a RN program.
- CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- In compliance with Criminal Background Check requirements.
- Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking.
- Required to climb, balance, stoop, and kneel.
- Required to use arms, hands, and fingers for repetitive grasping, pulling, and pushing and feeling.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.; any workload exceeding 50 lbs. will require assistance.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Works in a well-lit, climate-controlled setting.
- May be exposed to communicable diseases, unpleasant sights, odors, and materials.
- The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
Receives training and/or attends necessary meetings to meet the criteria as outlined in Hillsboro Health’s Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct. Understands the responsibilities related to compliance and knows how to contact the Corporate Compliance Officer should there be any instance of question or concern regarding fraud and/or abuse.
