Job Description

Peterson Cat has the immediate need for a Buyer based at our Hillsboro, OR location.

This position is responsible for obtaining materials, components, equipment, and services. It involves performing cost analysis and volume planning for assigned commodities, expediting deliveries to meet schedules, monitoring cost, schedule, and scope to ensure quality and value, and designing cost savings proposals.

• Prepare and issue purchase orders and other basic transactions using the company purchasing system; follow purchasing policies; expedite deliveries.
• Develop and design supply strategies through cross‑functional collaboration with Sales, Operations, and Support groups.
• Prepare, issue, and analyze RFPs/quotations to assess supplier capabilities.
• Generate cost/price/value analysis on supplier products and services.
• Support best purchasing practices and develop potential supplier contractual relationships.
• Measure effectiveness of procurement processes and recommend improvements.
• Maintain approved supplier list: conduct visits and evaluations, interview suppliers, establish ethical relationships, and recommend changes to the list.
• Keep supervisor apprised of actions or changes that may impact assigned commodities.
• Provide assistance to end users on purchasing processes and systems.
• Prepare management reports and maintain procurement documentation.
• Travel to supplier locations and other Peterson sites; operate company or personal vehicle as needed.
• Maintain punctual attendance.
• Process invoice discrepancies.
• Train and lead Associate Buyers.
• Review and edit credit applications for signature; complete resale certificate forms.

• Associate's Degree in a relevant field and minimum 3 years of directly related experience, preferably in a heavy industrial environment; certification in purchasing is a plus.

• Maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
