We are seeking a full-time English ministry pastor for the English-speaking congregation of the Chinese Evangelical Church of Portland, OR. We are a community of Christians (singles, couples, and families) who believe in and follow Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Our goal is to be a community that is God-centered, Gospel-driven, unity-bonded, grace-filled, and worship-animated. Our vision is to build the kingdom of God in Asian-American communities, grounded in the promises of the Gospel.

Responsibilities and Expectations
:
Responsible for the spiritual leadership and pastoral care of the English-speaking congregation and its members. Preach and teach the Word of God faithfully by delivering Biblically-based and Spirit-filled messages that are applicable and challenging to the congregation, in accordance with CEC’s Statement of Faith. Cast the vision for the English congregation and work collaboratively with its lay leaders in planning and implementing ministry programs that support this vision.

Develop and train lay leaders. Provide leadership and actively participate in prayer, education, discipleship, and evangelism to foster spiritual growth among members. Develop mentoring (discipleship) programs for men and women. Collaborate creatively and effectively with the Chinese-speaking pastor and congregation. Partner with the youth and children directors. Provide leadership for other pastoral acts such as weddings, baptisms, and funerals.

Qualifications
: A candidate should be a servant-leader who loves the Lord and is passionate about winning souls and making disciples for Christ. Fluency in English is essential. A Master of Divinity (or equivalent) is preferred. The candidate should have experience working with Asian/Asian-American and/or multi-ethnic groups, with at least 5 years of pastoral ministry experience, preferably in cross-cultural settings. Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin is a plus.

Our church was founded about 30 years ago by new immigrants from Taiwan who primarily spoke Mandarin Chinese. They started with Bible study groups meeting in homes. Over the years, God has blessed us with growth through immigrants from Mainland China and Southeast Asia, as well as American-born/raised individuals of Chinese descent. To serve the English-speaking members, we established an English worship service and congregation.

Currently, we have about 200 Mandarin/Cantonese-speaking members and approximately 60 English-speaking brothers and sisters in our English congregation.
