Level 2 Networking Technician

Apply for the Level 2 Networking Technician role at Compucom Staffing.

Our client is seeking an onsite Level 2 Networking Technician in Hillsboro, OR who will provide first‑level Smart Hands support to second and third level teams.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain the network environment as part of the onsite team for physical touch (Smart Hands) support of incidents and requests.
  • Provide incident support by working with remote Level 2/3 teams to resolve outages and fix issues, including replacement of faulty cabling or hardware components.
  • Support service requests and work with remote network teams to install hardware or patch cables for new customer services.
  • Participate in hardware rack and stack installation of network and server equipment, cable management, and installation of required fiber and copper patch leads. Provide console access to the remote team for configuration if required and test connectivity after installation and configuration.
  • Receive hardware shipments for data center equipment landings.
  • Validate purchase order accuracy of hardware/material received.
  • Unbox, discard, and recycle materials.
  • Move equipment from dock to staging areas or install destination.
  • Scan and label installed devices (network or server).
  • Designate parts identified for spare part stock inventory.
  • Handle proper e‑waste handling and disposal.
  • Ship and receive equipment as needed.
  • Provide escort services for vendors/techs.
  • Work Request Tasks from Service Now ticket system.
  • Work in datacenters and networking rooms.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Higher education or degree preferred (not required). 1–3+ years of progressive experience may substitute for years of education.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in racking, stacking, connecting, and providing basic configuration support of networking or server devices.
  • Ability to work in a hot enclosed environment for short spans (data center hot isles).
  • Must be able to work on a ladder; ladder use is required for top‑of‑rack installations.
  • Must be able to work independently and in teams of 3–4; flexible.
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs solo.
  • Must be willing to travel between buildings using personal car or foot.
  • May be required to walk/sit/stand/crawl/kneel for extended periods.
  • Excellent customer service and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and Windows 10.
  • Ability to communicate by telephone, email, or face‑to‑face.
  • Structured network cabling experience:
    • Copper:
      Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6; connector types RJ45.
    • Fiber: multimode, single mode; connector types ST, SC, LC.
  • WIFI hardware experience:
    • Wireless LAN controllers.
    • Wireless access points.
  • Networking experience:
    • IP addressing, Layer 2 VLAN, etc.
  • Experienced in Ethernet switching hardware:
    • Chassis, supervisor, line cards, power supplies, etc.
    • Transceiver types: SX, LX, SR, LR, etc.
  • Cable troubleshooting knowledge/experience:
    • Fluke testers: copper wire map, link test; fiber OTDR testing.
    • Fluke Aircheck: wireless testing.
Wage Range

The rate for this position is between $16.00 and $20.00 per hour. Starting pay may be affected by geography, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
