Job SummaryUnder general supervision and in collaboration with other members of the health care team, the RN uses clinical judgment to diagnose and treat health problems. The RN assesses, plans, directs, provides, and evaluates nursing care for patients and coordinates nurses’ care activities with other health care disciplines.
Essential Responsibilities- Assessment:
Perform accurate multi‑system assessments, including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self‑care, education needs, and discharge planning needs. Identify deviations from normal on routine lab diagnostic tests and reassess patients throughout hospitalization. Perform complete discharge assessment. - Planning:
Develop an individual nursing plan of care. Coordinate patient care activities and discharge planning with other hospital, clinic, and community agencies. Develop patient teaching plan and document it. Appropriately delegate patient care activities, prioritize patient care, and classify acuity level. - Implementation:
Initiate appropriate measures based on protocol for the management of the medical and/or surgical patient. Base nursing care on protocol in place. Correctly carry out the physician’s plan of care, accurately document in the EMR, and follow policy and procedure. Use a multidisciplinary approach when appropriate. Perform necessary procedures, utilize available teaching plans, accurately calculate and administer medications, and initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations. - Evaluation:
Evaluate assessment methods, plan of care, and patient responses to treatment. Participate in unit quality assurance activities.
- Minimum nine (9) months of RN experience.
- Minimum two (2) years of recent Med/Surg experience in an acute care setting.
- Minimum one (1) year of Progressive Care, Intermediate Care, Step‑Down, or Telemetry Unit experience.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Registered Nurse License (Oregon).
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program within 6 months of hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
- Basic Life Support required at hire.
- Computer keyboarding skills.
- Experience in acute care, utilizing the nursing process, effective problem solving and communication skills.
- Previous health care experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
- Minimum three (3) years recent Med/Surg experience in an acute care setting.
- Med/Surg certification.
- Progressive Care certification.
- Demonstrated clinical judgment with inpatient orthopedic patients.
