Job Summary

Under general supervision and in collaboration with other members of the health care team, uses clinical judgment skills to diagnose and treat human responses to actual or potential health problems. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, directing, providing and evaluating nursing care for patients and coordinating nurses care activities with other health care disciplines.

• Assessment:
  Performs accurate multi-system assessments including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, education needs and discharge planning. Identifies deviations on routine lab tests, reassesses throughout hospitalization, and performs complete discharge assessment.
• Planning:
  Develops an individual nursing plan of care sensitive to developmental needs, coordinates care activities and discharge with other departments and agencies, documents teaching plans, delegates appropriately, sets priorities and classifies acuity levels.
• Implementation:
  Initiates appropriate measures per protocol for medical/surgical patients, follows physician plan, documents accurately in EMR, utilizes multidisciplinary approach, performs necessary procedures, uses teaching plans, calculates/administers medications, and responds to emergencies.
• Evaluation:
  Evaluates assessment methods, plan of care, patient response to treatment, and participates in unit quality assurance activities.
