Ensure meat is wrapped, weighed, and priced properly; operate wrapping machine; provide customer service and ensure product quality and selection; maintain cleanliness of department and equipment; consistently deliver world‑class customer service to internal and external customers; perform other related work. Generally works 6–8 hour shifts between 9:00 am and 10:00 pm.
TypicalDuties & Responsibilities
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers.
- Maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on fast, courteous interactions.
- Answer questions from customers.
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
- Weigh, tray, grind, wrap, and price poultry and meat.
- Prevent sale of spoiled and outdated product by following laws and company policy on weighing, labeling, code dating, and processing re‑worked or reduced‑to‑clear items.
- Ensure proper merchandising of product, signing, inventory level in retail cases, and eye‑appeal of the department.
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of work area, equipment, cutting room, and retail cases according to company policy and regulatory requirements.
- Stock and rotate product.
- Consolidate racks by moving trays from one rack to another.
- Cleave mirrors, glass, and other surfaces.
- Assist Meat Cutters and Department Manager with other tasks as appropriate.
- Participate in a Meat Cutter training program to learn basic meat cutting skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
- Work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Perform friendly, courteous, and tactful interactions while remaining composed with customers and coworkers.
- Conduct visual inspections and read production guides and product labels.
- Use cleaning chemicals according to manufacturer guidelines and instructions.
- Handle food products per state and county laws and Win Co standards.
- Read and follow written work assignments and instructions.
- Communicate effectively (hearing and speech) on the sales floor.
- Reach, lift, and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approx. 25 lbs. frequently and 30–60 lbs. occasionally.
- Push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks.
- Perform repetitive arm movements required for wrapping, slicing, and processing products.
- Stand for long periods, walk, move rapidly, bend, twist, and turn frequently.
- Operate related equipment with manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination.
- Work for prolonged periods in a refrigerated area (32–50 °F).
- Work with hands exposed to moisture while handling and stocking poultry and meat.
- Learn product variability, perishability, safety, and sanitation procedures, and department policies.
- Perform basic math (add, subtract, divide, multiply) and calculate weights and measures.
- Wear hats, hairnets, gloves, and other personal protective equipment as required.
- Perform primary duties with efficiency and accuracy.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Food Handlers Certification (per state laws).
- Scales, wrapping machines, slicers, cubers, pallet jacks, bailers, and hand trucks.
