ClientDescription:
We are looking for a genuine and positive caregiver to provide support for a 15 year old boy in the home and potentially in the community. Our client is very creative and energetic; he likes to skate and spend time with friends. He lives with his mom in an apartment, he is working on being more engaged with household tasks, becoming more consistent with his personal hygiene, and building his safety awareness.
He has difficulty tracking conversations and communicating for extended periods of time and may misunderstand others or their tone of voice. He requires a caregiver who will provide basic and straight forward communication during daily activities.
Other supports, such as helping him judge the safety of his actions, and use emotional regulation skills. DSP will best assist by remaining casual with client and keeping a positive tone but maintain a clear structure. DSP can use timers, provide redirection as needed to task that he might otherwise delay or not finish (i.e. washing dishes, taking family dog out for a walk, taking out the trash, eat full meals, laundry, and brushing his teeth), encouraging him to ask for breaks and use his coping skills to prevent dysregulation, and giving him frequent reassurance.
Experiences working with and appreciation for youth of color, and/or biracial identities is preferred.
Responsibilities and Duties:
This role involves caring for a client on an individual basis in their home environment as well as taking them out into the community to learn skills and socialize. This role varies depending on the client but can involve teaching skills of independent living such as self-care, behavior management, budgeting, cooking, shopping and cleaning. Family Relief Resources is not a physical facility
-100% of activities happen in the community or a client's home.
- Smart Phone:
The state requires all client visits to be tracked with GPS location verification at clock in/out. You will need a smart phone to access the timekeeping application once you arrive at the client's location. - Driving:
Have a valid license and car with current insurance. Some clients will need transportation. - Documenting:
Must create and enter specific progress notes after each shift. Also, a progress report is due once per quarter. - Scheduling:
Each DSP has a set schedule and must be able to maintain this with clients. - Reliability:
Because Family Relief Resources is not a facility, we need reliable employees who can work independently, show up for their shifts, and be excellent communicators with their client's families and with our agency. - Patient, Kind, and Positive:
Helping those with disabilities requires a person who can be patient in all situations, show kindness, and have a positive attitude toward the client and other members of the client's family even in challenging situations. - Flexibility:
Being able to adjust to different types of personalities and disabilities from day to day.
