Construction Manager - E&C

Overview

Construction Manager - E&C at Apex Systems. The Construction Manager (CM) is responsible for the project’s success from a field level and serves as the bridge between the field and the Project Manager.

• Lead and manage site activities, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
• Preconstruction: know contract documents and the contractor Safety Plan; participate in Kickoff Meetings and Site-Specific Orientation.
• Read and understand permits, road use agreements, crossing agreements, SWPPP, haul routes, drawings, materials, schedule, QA/QC, and submittals to engineering for review.
• Set and communicate expectations to the contractor; read and implement the Site Safety Plan and Site Safety Orientation; complete Safety Assessments / CILs (Unifier).
• Lead reporting efforts: collect own data, maintain weekly reports to the CM, and ensure 100% accuracy for management review; manage trackers and project data to support change orders if needed.
• Develop and maintain a good relationship with the contractor; stay engaged in the project and coordinate safety, quality, and environmental activities.
• Monitor the schedule (C1 and Contractor P-6), track progress, and approve the CSU; ensure environmental constraints (SWPPP) are respected; coordinate outages and crossing activities.
• Coordinate with environmental, land, materials management, safety, and other SMEs; facilitate safe and compliant operations and resolve issues through the CM.
• Ensure documentation is complete and accessible for audits and reviews; communicate background context to PM when assistance is needed.
• Ensure all reports/trackers are due by Friday End of Day project time.
• Supervise addition resources as needed and utilize the environmental team; conduct third-party audits of contractor performance.
• Maintain safety standards and lead by example to minimize rework and safety risks.
• Protect contractor interactions by directing communications through the CM when required (e.g., with environmentalists, land agents).

• Strong ability to manage field and office activities; excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Familiarity with safety programs, QA/QC processes, Unifier, and project tracking tools.
• Knowledge of environmental and permitting requirements; ability to read and interpret drawings, schedules, and submittals.
