Role descriptionArcadis is seeking an experienced Principal Environmental Permitting Manager to join our east coast Enviro-Socio Permitting team to lead environmental permitting and regulatory compliance for programs and projects in New York City (NYC). This role involves providing leadership around permitting strategies and implementation, managing project delivery, and interfacing with clients and regulatory agencies.
Role accountabilitiesAs an Environmental Permitting Manager, you will lead technical delivery for projects located primarily in and around NYC, with a focus on a single, existing, multi-year, major infrastructure contract. You will develop environmental review and permitting strategies, and communicate permit strategy to clients and internal teams. This role primarily supports NYC transit, water/wastewater infrastructure, and environmental and flood resiliency projects, with opportunities to support other sectors and clients in the region.
Responsibilities include overseeing the development of technical reports, work plans, permit applications, and other environmental documents to support environmental impact reviews and permitting, and providing senior technical review for deliverables. You will coordinate with teams with expertise in NYC Department of Parks and Recreation Tree Work Permits and Plan Review Applications, NYC Department of Environmental Protection permits and regulatory compliance, NYC Department of City Planning ULURP, NYC Waterfront Revitalization Program Review Procedures, and NYC Small Business Services Waterfront Construction Work Permit requirements.
arrangement and travel
Arcadis offers a hybrid work environment. You can work remotely and/or from the office as project needs require. Periodic travel within the NYC metropolitan region (approximately 10-15%) may be required.
Qualifications & ExperienceRequired qualifications for the role include:
- Bachelor s degree in environmental science, environmental or land use planning, or related field
- Minimum of 12 years of experience managing and executing environmental permitting projects in NYC
- Expertise in the development of permit applications and permitting strategy, specifically in NYC
- Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate with scientists, engineers, archaeologists, and other specialists in developing environmental documents and permit applications
- Experience supporting client development including identifying opportunities, developing and maintaining client relationships, and leading proposal development, including the preparation of scopes of work and project budgets

Salary range for this position is $145,000 - $217,500. Actual salaries vary based on experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
