The responsibility of the teacher is to carry out a program of instruction which enables students to utilize skills taught to discover, to problem solve, to predict and be motivated to learn more. In addition, the teacher will provide instruction in higher level thinking skills including, but not limited to, analysis, synthesis and application, using content areas. The program is based on the School Board and State of California Goals and Objectives.
Under the direction of the principal, the teacher is responsible to plan and implement the educational program for his/her students, teach skills, provide intellectual growth.
- Reflects an understanding of learning theory, curriculum guidelines, and state requirements in planning and instruction.
- Diagnose learning needs of children (style, modality).
- Develop/utilize instructional material and techniques to meet diagnosed needs.
- Develop/utilize hands on and experiential materials to enrich instruction.
- Evaluate and record children’s academic and social growth on a continual basis, including completing progress reports.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to facilitate learning in optimum environment.
- Conduct parent conferences to discuss student progress and interpret school program.
- Counsel care for the well‑being and safety of each student.
- Cooperate as an effective school team member.
- Maintain professional competence through in‑service, classes, and dialogue.
- Provide a functional and attractive learning environment.
- Be a guide, resource, model, facilitator, motivator for student learning.
All teachers use an electronic presentation system which includes, but is not limited to, computer, SMART Board, document camera, projector, and DVD player.
Physical DemandsThe job of teaching includes standing, walking, sitting, bending, lifting 20 pounds, reaching, pushing/pulling, kneeling/crouching, use of hands, hearing and vision.
Vision, Hearing, Speech/Language ProcessingA teacher needs clarity of vision and three‑dimensional vision. He/She needs to hear at close proximity and at a distance. A teacher needs to be able to verbally communicate, have visual and auditory comprehension, speak on the phone, have short and long‑term memory recall, read, write.
Human RelationsTeachers need to interact with the public and co‑workers, have the ability to function independently, be decision makers and problem solvers, accept supervisory authority.
Environmental ConditionsThis area has temperate climatic conditions, so extremes are rare. Noise is at an acceptable level for classrooms. Rarely are vibrations, hazards, or pollutant atmospheric conditions noted.
TemperamentA teacher needs to be able to direct others, express personal ideas/feelings, influence others, be flexible, and perform a variety of duties.
