Job Overview

Join our enthusiastic team and help to maintain and develop the wonderful gardens of Hillsborough Castle! The grounds of Hillsborough have undergone major work to enhance the beauty and horticultural interest over the past 11 years, and have been fully open to the public for the past 7 years. The gardens are varied and include formal areas with ornamental planting and topiary, lawns and parkland trees, herbaceous borders and a productive kitchen garden, woodland, lakes and meadows.

We have two temporary roles available in the team, including one for a horticulture student on placement. These roles are advertised together.

• Role 1:
  Seasonal Gardener – 6 months over the summer.
• Role 2:
  Gardener (student placement) – 6 months over the summer.

We are inviting applications from students currently studying on a recognised horticulture course who require a placement as part of their studies. If you are a horticulture student looking for a placement, and have a positive, proactive and enthusiastic attitude, then this is the role for you.

• Support the rest of the Gardens and Estates team, taking on a variety of different tasks.
• Work in a small team and pay keen attention to detail, demonstrating a passion for gardening.
• Display and build on professional all-round knowledge of garden maintenance tasks and understand what it means to provide a 5 Star service to our visitors.
• Be team-focused and competent in using a range of horticultural machinery (e.g., hedge trimmers, lawn-mowers, strimmers).
• Provide the highest level of garden and estate maintenance while maintaining a safe, clean and secure working environment.
• Be available to work some weekend days and Bank holidays.
