Recruitment Number 25-068TO, Court Reporter II, SR-25, Hilo, Hawaii.

Note: In addition to receiving a base salary from the State of Hawaii, Judiciary Court Reporters are entitled to additional compensation for preparing transcripts in accordance with Hawaii Revised Statutes section 606-13 and the Rules Governing Court Reporting in the State of Hawaii.

Takes verbatim records of civil, criminal, and Grand Jury court proceedings; transcribes and certifies typewritten transcripts; and performs other duties as required.Education Requirement: Graduation from high school. Work experience which required the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Stenographic Requirement:
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to take verbatim dictation at:
  • 225 words per minute in question and answer testimony;
  • 200 words per minute in jury charges;
  • 180 words per minute in literary;and transcribe such dictation at an acceptable rate.
  • License Requirement: To qualify, applicants must possess a current certificate as a Hawai`i Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) issued by the Supreme Court through the Hawai`i Board of Certified Shorthand Reporters.

    Applicants who do not currently possess a Hawai`i CSR certificate, but possess a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certificate issued by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) may also apply. If you are selected for a position, you will not be able to start employment until you receive a Hawai`i CSR certificate issued by the Supreme Court through the Hawai`i Board of Certified Shorthand Reporters.
