The Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit is responsible for providing primary nursing care, telemetry monitoring, and patient assessments in a 15-bed unit including step-down ICU and telemetry beds. The role requires collaboration with the healthcare team, use of specialized equipment, and adherence to clinical protocols. The nurse will support acute care patients and may float to other acute units as needed.
A minimum of one year of recent hospital acute care experience is required, with progressive care and telemetry experience preferred.
- Provide primary nursing care to patients in the Progressive Care Unit.
- Perform telemetry monitoring and interpret telemetry strips.
- Conduct fingerstick blood sugar testing and other patient assessments.
- Utilize electronic medical record systems such as Meditech for charting.
- Administer medications using Pyxis medication dispensing systems.
- Operate specialized equipment including BIPAP and continuous cardiac monitors.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement treatment plans.
- Float to other acute care units including Medical, Surgical/Pediatrics, ICU, and ER as required.
- Maintain compliance with unit dress code and infection control policies.
Certifications:
- Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Hawaii prior to assignment start.
- Minimum of 1 year hospital acute care experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and progressive care preferred.
- Ability to use Meditech and Pyxis or similar clinical software systems.
Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Must have or obtain Hawaii RN license before starting assignment.
- Floating to other acute care units including ICU and ER is required.
- No on-call responsibilities.
- Adherence to scrub dress code.
- Work environment includes progressive care and telemetry monitoring.
- Day shift from 06:45 to 19:15.
- Scheduled 36 hours per week following orientation.
- Operating hours Monday through Friday, 24 hours per day.
- No guaranteed hours beyond scheduled shifts.
