Job SummaryThe Certified Surgical Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Certified surgical technologists possess expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

- Support surgeons and nurses in all surgical procedures, maintaining sterile technique and safety protocols.
- Prepare and arrange instruments, equipment, and tissues for surgery.
- Assist in maintaining a safe patient environment following the "First Do No Harm" principle.
- Foster teamwork, engagement, and community involvement within the surgical team.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of an accredited educational program for surgical technologists.
- Must meet one of the following pathways:
- Hold and maintain the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through NBSTSA.
- Completed surgical technology training through the U.S. Armed Forces or U.S. Public Health Service.
- Practiced as a surgical technologist in South Carolina prior to January 1, 2008.
- Serving as a surgical technologist in the federal government.
- Current BLS certification required.
- NBSTSA certification required.
- Previous hospital experience preferred.
