This position is responsible for the overall operation and administration of the Clinical Laboratory at Coastal Carolina and Hilton Head Medical Centers. Oversee areas of responsibility to ensure smooth operations and continuous improvement. Ensure processes are in place to monitor and validate the safe provision of quality and safety, patient‑focused, outcomes based, and cost‑effective medicine in the hospital setting. Facilitate cooperative and collaborative relationships among departments and with physicians and external agencies to ensure effective operations and patient outcomes.

Promote evidence‑based practice and the culture of safety. Assure the highest standards of healthcare delivery and outcomes, ensuring a constant patient focus. Ensure all duties performed are properly performed, and applicable regulations and standards are met. Ensure the department uses a quality system approach to laboratory testing that provides accurate and reliable patient test results. Additional responsibilities include recognizing results or problems that require referral to the Pathologist, assuring competency of all personnel, formulating the budget for the department, maintaining performance improvement activities within the department and participating in continuous quality improvement activities and maintaining efficient and effective departmental operations in compliance Narc.

• Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry. MBA or MHA preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of five years recent previous experience in the management of clinical laboratory of an acute care hospital.
• Must have experience with regulatory and accreditation requirements of laboratory operations, including CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and CMS.

  An understanding of current trends in clinical laboratory services and operations and knowledge of quality, statistical concepts preferred.
