South East Coastal Underwriters has an immediate position for a full-time Insurance Underwriter at our Hilton Head office located in South Carolina.

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Insurance Underwriter to evaluate the risks of insuring individuals or businesses, review applications, analyze statistical data, and determine if a policy should be approved and at what premium and terms. The ideal candidate will collaborate with agents and other professionals, use specialized software, and make data‑driven decisions to ensure profitability and compliance while minimizing risk for the insurance company.

• Review insurance applications and related documents to evaluate risk.
• Analyze applicant data including financial status, medical history, and property details.
• Determine coverage amounts, premiums, and policy terms.
• Use underwriting software and guidelines to assess risk and make decisions.
• Collaborate with agents, brokers, and other stakeholders to gather additional information.
• Monitor existing policies for changes in risk and recommend adjustments.
• Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and underwriting best practices.
• Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

• Proven experience as an insurance underwriter or in a similar role.
• Strong analytical and decision‑making skills.
• Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.

• Professional certifications (e.g., CPCU, ARM, AU).
• Experience in E&S property, casualty, flood etc.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and compliance standards.
