Internship Data & Analytics - Back-end Google Cloud

What will you do?

• Support the improvement of data governance across our analytics platform by documenting key datasets in Big Query, enriching metadata, improving business definitions, and helping maintain a clear and usable data dictionary.
• Help classify data assets and contribute to better visibility of data lineage, ownership, and usage
  , so teams can find and trust the right data more easily.
• Contribute to data quality and observability initiatives by helping define checks for freshness, completeness, schema changes, and failed transformations in dbt and related pipelines.
• Assist in setting up or improving alerting and monitoring for critical data pipelines and analytical datasets, so issues can be detected earlier and followed up more consistently.
• Analyze pipeline and warehouse usage to identify opportunities for cost management and performance optimization in Big Query and dbt, for example around model design, materialization choices, and query efficiency.
• Support the team in improving visibility of operational metadata such as run results, failures, and freshness indicators, and help make this information more actionable for reporting and support processes.
• Help review legacy models and datasets, identify opportunities for clean-up or simplification, and support the migration toward more maintainable and standardized data products.
• Work together with analytics engineers, business stakeholders, and product teams to translate data platform improvements into practical recommendations and documentation.

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of data management concepts, including data warehousing, data modeling, and data governance.
• Experience or familiarity with SQL and cloud-based data platforms (ideally Google Cloud Platform).
• Exposure to data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) is a plus.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Self-motivated and eager to learn new technologies in a fast-paced environment.
• Dealing with English-speaking staff and reporting in English.

• Practical experience working with cutting-edge data management and visualization tools (Big Query, Looker, SAP Analytics Cloud).
• Exposure to the inner workings of a data-driven retail organization undergoing a major data transformation.

• Internship allowance: 450 € per month (gross) with 8+ holiday days (based on 40 h/week).
• Travel allowance: max 11.50 € per day (based on your travel distance) if you are not eligible for the free Student OV Chipcard.

• For this internship, you need to be available for 5 months starting in February 2026.
• Enrollment at a school or university for the full duration of the internship.
• Compliance with Dutch law:
  You are an EU citizen, on a Family/Partner visa, or a non-EU student studying in the Netherlands who meets at least one of the following requirements: (1) the internship is a mandatory part of your curriculum, or (2) your university is willing to sign a third-party agreement (Nuffic Agreement).
