Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to step into a pivotal role at the heart of our Lending function. As Lending Business Manager, you’ll work closely with our Director of Lending and senior leaders to shape how we operate, strengthen how we manage risk, and support sustainable mortgage growth. This role is about influence, improvement and impact. You’ll help turn strategy into action, champion operational excellence, and ensure our lending operations are robust, well‑governed and customer‑focused.

You’ll also play a key role in producing insightful reporting for committees and the Board, supporting strong decision‑making and effective oversight. If you enjoy working in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment and thrive on making meaningful change, this could be a fantastic next step for you.

What you’ll be doing

Driving strategy into day‑to‑day delivery
You’ll help bring our lending strategy to life by putting the right operational enablers in place and continually improving how we work. You’ll promote a culture of accountability, teamwork and problem‑solving, always keeping the customer experience front and centre.

Strengthening credit risk and lending processes
Working closely with the management team, you’ll review and refine lending processes to ensure strong credit risk oversight while supporting our growth ambitions. You’ll help balance great customer outcomes with robust risk management, ensuring our approach remains sustainable and compliant.

Owning performance and service delivery
You’ll oversee daily operational performance across the mortgage lifecycle, monitoring SLAs and service standards and using insight to drive improvements. You’ll spot trends early, address issues proactively, and help the team consistently deliver excellent service.

Supporting a high‑performing team culture
While this isn’t a line‑management role, you’ll be a visible leader and trusted colleague, offering guidance, challenge and support. You’ll contribute to a collaborative, engaged and customer‑focused culture where people are encouraged to perform at their best.

Providing insight through MI and reporting
You’ll produce high‑quality management information, KPI reporting and regulatory returns, using data and analysis to highlight risks, opportunities and areas for improvement. Your work will directly inform senior leadership, committees and the Board.

Keeping an eye on the wider landscape
You’ll support research into underwriting practices and potential new lending areas, stay close to regulatory developments, and represent the business in industry forums where appropriate.

What we’re looking for

You don’t need to tick every box, but you’re likely to bring:

  • Strong knowledge of mortgage operations, lending processes and credit risk
  • Experience of process improvement, change delivery or project work
  • The confidence to communicate clearly and influence at all levels
  • A data‑led mindset, with strong analytical skills
  • A good understanding of risk management and regulatory expectations
  • High attention to detail and a genuine commitment to great customer outcomes
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams
  • An innovative, curious mindset and the confidence to challenge the status quo

Knowledge of assisted decision‑making is beneficial but not essential.

Why join us?

Joining us as Lending Business Manager means playing a central role in the Society’s growth ambitions. You’ll have real exposure to senior leaders, the opportunity to influence key decisions, and the chance to help shape a high‑performing, future‑ready Lending team.

In return, you’ll gain:

The opportunity to drive meaningful operational change.
Visibility at senior and Board level.
A role where your insight, judgement and ideas genuinely matter.
