Job Goal/
Summary:
To provide the highest quality educational experiences for students with exceptional needs between ages three and twenty-one in the Liberty County School System.
- Minimum of Master’s degree or higher in a special education related field (T5);
Educational Leadership preferred - Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching or administration in a special education related position within a public school setting in Georgia
- The successful applicant must have extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local special education administrative laws, rules, and regulations; and familiarity of current trends and best practices in special education practices and procedures
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
- Prompt and regular attendance
- Attends IEP meetings to assist staff in writing compliant IEPs and address parental concerns
- Provides support for adapted curriculum classes to include coordinating behavioral/academic/procedural support; training; equipment; maintain a list of students and staff to ensure an appropriate ratio; roll-up lists, etc.
- Coordinates the administration of the GAA 2.0 to include keeping up to date on procedures; training staff; maintaining a roster of GAA students; coordinating with the district and school testing staff
- Serves a liaison for GNETS-Coastal Academy to include requesting observations; attending IEP meetings; completing intake packets, scheduling, training, etc.
- Coordinate Hospital/Homebound/Home Instruction services to include training, attending IEP meetings, processing timesheets, coordinating testing schedules, etc.
- Supervising and evaluating the Behavior Support staff to include training, professional learning communities, etc.
- Serves as the district’s representative on the Local Interagency Planning Team (LIPT) and Children in Need of Services (CHINS) meetings
- Coordinates the ESY and Summer Program services to include staffing; training; timesheets; supervising staff, etc
- Identifies students for the Transition Academy to include reviewing IEPs and other documents; coordinating with counselors; developing schedules, etc.
- Serves as a Tribunal panel or SPED representative
- Coordinates with GVRA and other transition agencies to ensure services are provided for SWD
- All other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and Superintendent of Schools
Able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities including:
Light Work:
Exerting 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 pounds as needed to move objects.
Salary shall be paid consistent on the System’s approved salary schedule. Length of work year and hours of employment shall be established by the system.
Evaluation:Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Executive Director/Director of Department for Exceptional Learning
