Job Goal: To assist the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment in order that students may learn effectively.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed.
- Hold an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution; or
- Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (60 semester hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institutionor
- Passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment.
- Prompt and regular attendance.
- In person classroom instruction.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all student records, reports, and other documentation.
- Assists teachers with the clerical duties, grading papers, preparing materials, typing and/or reproducing documents.
- Assists teacher with bulletin boards.
- Assist students with health care procedures including hygiene and daily care.
- Assist students with physical needs including but not limited to feeding, toileting, repositioning, and mobility as needed.
- Works with individual pupils and/or small groups to reinforce skills taught by teacher.
- Supervises groups or individuals at times when the principal deems it necessary for the teacher to be in a professional meeting or at other times designated by the supervisor.
- Accompanies groups on field trips under the supervision of the teacher when such trips are authorized for educational purposes.
- Assists teachers and the school program by helping with other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Assists in supervising pupils before, during, and after school.
- Attend professional learning and staff development activities as needed.
- Performs such other assignments and duties as assigned by the supervisor and Superintendent of Schools.
Able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities including:
Medium Work:
Exerting 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects.
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on classified evaluation.
