Position: SY 2025-26 High School Band Director - BI

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold a valid professional, renewable teaching certificate in K-12 Music Education;
  • Prior experience as an assistant band director/band director, in music education or participation in a collegiate marching band;
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prompt and regular attendance.
  • Plans, rehearses, and directs musical experiences for band students.
  • Cooperates with the district and school administration in providing music programs for sporting events, school productions, graduation ceremonies, and as appropriate, civic functions that enhance the students’ performing experience.
  • Seeks, initiates, and implements participation of the band and band members in out-of-school band experiences appropriate to the curriculum and student interests.
  • Manages the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
  • Develops and implements plans for the instrumental music program and shows written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepares lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
  • Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Supervises after-school activities to include rehearsals, concerts, contests, and performances.
  • Works with feeder schools to ensure a smooth transition for students and parents.
  • Maintains a music library.
  • Evaluates student performance.
  • Effectively provides instruction to the assigned students.
  • Effectively communicates with parents and students as appropriate.
  • Stays current with teaching methodologies, professional learning, and music education trends.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor or Superintendent of Schools.

Terms of Employment: 190-Day Calendar plus 20 additional days and position supplement. Salary is commensurate with certification level and verifiable years of experience.
