Job Description

The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a qualified Audiology Technician to provide general support to our government customer, at Fort Stewart, Georgia. This individual will provide scientific, technical, and programmatic support for the clinical and field studies conducted at a DoD medical center and collaborating sites.

Responsibilities
  • Work with hearing conservation staff to assist in the recruitment and testing of individuals into hearing tests, either as part of their annual hearing exams or as part of clinical appointments in the occupational health or audiology department;
  • Work with the research staff in the development, execution, analysis, and documentation of auditory and vestibular studies focused on the evaluation and development of improved hearing protection systems and the impact of hearing loss on military effectiveness;
  • Work with the Research Engineer in the development, integration, and installation of custom and modified COTS hardware, software, and related equipment as required for the implementation of clinical and field studies related to hearing research, assist as necessary in the hearing conservation program, including in the testing and fitting of hearing protection devices and in the counseling and training of individuals in the use of hearing protection and on the consequences of unprotected noise exposure;
  • Schedule research subject initial and return appointments; maintain open communication with the assigned Research Engineer and research staff and report progress on the research study;
  • Provide assistance to Research Engineer and research staff in preparing research subjects as needed;
  • Ensure all data and databases abides by all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and associated patient confidentiality requirements;
  • Other duties assigned by Supervisor
Required Education & Certifications
  • Must have an Associate's degree or bachelor's degree in audiology, communication disorders, speech/language pathology or another relevant field.
  • Must have a certification in audiology or hearing conservation.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Must have experience conducting audiology research in a hearing conservation or clinical environment.
  • Must have knowledge in desktop/portable diagnostic tympanometry equipment, electrophysiological testing equipment, PC‑based speech audiometers equipment, optoacoustic emission/auditory brainstem response equipment, vestibular‑ocular reflex assessment tools, diagnostic audiometers, and teleaudiology equipment.
  • Must be organized, attentive to detail, and possess a positive, friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Must have the ability to develop strong trusting relationships in order to gain support and achieve results.
  • Must have knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, techniques and medical procedures.
  • Must be flexible with changing priorities and able to communicate in a diplomatic and professional manner.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competences in oral and written communications.
  • Must have knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and associated patient confidentiality requirements.
  • Must have knowledge of the Protection of Human Subjects in Research and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulatory requirements.
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Two plus (2+) years in a hearing‑related research environment.
  • Three to five (3‑5) years of experience in the biomedical field.
  • Three to five (3‑5) years of non‑profit, research, or healthcare experience.
  • Knowledge of military medical systems.
Citizenship & Clearance
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain a favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) federal background check.
