The Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of wheeled military vehicles in support of operations at Fort Stewart, Georgia. This position supports mission readiness by ensuring all assigned vehicles are safe, reliable, and fully operational. The role aligns closely with the skills and responsibilities equivalent to that of the U.S. Army 91 Series Military Occupational Specialties (MOS).
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on wheeled military vehicles of all sizes with no weight limitations.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Repair or replace engines, transmissions, axles, steering systems, brakes, suspension systems, and drive trains.
- Maintain and repair vehicle electrical systems, including wiring, batteries, starters, air conditioning and lighting systems.
- Operate and utilize technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic equipment to complete repairs accurately.
- Document maintenance actions and ensure compliance with all Army maintenance standards and safety regulations.
- Conduct road tests and functional checks to verify vehicle readiness.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with installation and OSHA requirements.
- Support mission requirements and operational deadlines assigned.
- 5 or more years’ experience equivalent to U.S. Army 91 Series MOS (e.g., 91B Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic).
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Technician Certification(s). Note- MIL1 and/or MIL 8 not sufficient for satisfaction of this requirement.
- EPA Section 609 Certification (authorizes mechanics to service motor vehicle AC systems).
- Maintains tools and equipment and cleans work areas to maintain a safe work environment.
- Be able to work outside in inclement weather conditions when necessary.
- All employees are required to have their own equipment/tools.
- Proven experience working on wheeled military vehicles with no restrictions on vehicle size or weight.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, diagnostics, and repair techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, vehicle schematics and maintenance documentation.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a military installation environment.
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver tools and components associated with vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to work in shop and outdoor environments, including exposure to weather, noise, and mechanical hazards.
- Must have valid driver’s license.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to obtain and maintain installation access credentials and Common Access Card (CAC).
- 10 or more years of experience working on diesel engines.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Military Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Technician Certification (MIL2-MIL8).
- Previous experience working under a military or Department of Defense contract.
- Familiarity with OSHA standards and workplace safety regulations.
- Prior military service or direct experience supporting military vehicle maintenance.
