Light Driver-Roll Back – SA Recycling

The main goal is to move material where we need it. Drivers must conduct themselves professionally when dealing with customers and employees, following DOT regulations, in-yard rules, and traffic controller directions. Seatbelts must be worn at all times while in the vehicle.

Job Expectations

Comply with all applicable federal, state, local, and SA Recycling safety, health, and environmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Vehicle Operation:
    Safely operate a rollback tow truck to transport disabled, damaged, or illegally parked vehicles and equipment.
  • Loading & Securing:
    Utilize hydraulic systems to lower the flatbed, then load and secure vehicles using winches, chains, and tie‑downs to ensure a damage‑free transport.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    Adhere to all DOT regulations, including Hours of Service rules and mandatory electronic logging if applicable.
  • Inspections:
    Conduct daily pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections (DVIR), documenting critical components.
  • Customer Service:
    Act as a professional first responder to stranded motorists, providing jump starts, lockouts, or fuel delivery as needed.
  • Documentation:
    Accurately complete condition reports, shipping papers, and billing paperwork for every tow or transport.
Job Duties
  • Load and unload trucks hauling scrap metal.
  • Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking.
  • Perform DOT daily operation and safety inspection.
  • Communicate with office and customers to determine commodities to load.
  • Work independently when driving scrap metal.
  • Assist customers to satisfy their needs and resolve problems.
  • Collaborate with other employees in the scrap metal yard to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Perform normal daily operation maintenance, including refueling, lubrication, cooling system cleaning, and housekeeping.
  • Clean up work area at the end of shift and keep areas neat and orderly.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Dispose of various waste materials appropriately and ensure cleanup is completed.
  • Maintain effective housekeeping for safety and hygiene.
Required Qualifications
  • License:
    Valid state‑issued Class C license (commercial or non‑commercial depending on vehicle’s GVWR).
  • Mechanical Aptitude:
    Ability to perform minor roadside repairs and troubleshoot hydraulic equipment.
  • Tech Savvy:
    Proficiency in using GPS, dispatch software, and ELD.
  • Driving Record:
    Clean MVR with no recent major violations or DUIs; must pass DOT background check.
  • Medical:
    Must pass DOT physical, drug screen and background check.
  • Experience:

    Prior experience operating rollback or flatbed equipment (1–3 years of service truck experience preferred).
  • Language:
    Must meet federal English proficiency requirements.

  • Physical Strength:
    Must pass pre‑employment physical and drug screen.
  • Work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
  • Sensory Demands:
    Ability to read and write in English (hearing, vision, touch, smell, taste).
  • Problem Solving:
    Stay calm and find solutions in high‑stress roadside environments or heavy traffic.
  • Hand Movements:
    Repetitive motions, gripping.
