Under the general supervision of the Supervisors, Manager or Director; performs clinical laboratory testing pursuant to established and approved protocols requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, maintains equipment and records, performs quality assurance activities related to test performance and may supervise and teach within the laboratory setting.

Accuracy:
Maintains acceptable accuracy in-patient, quality assurance, proficiency, and competency testing. Critical Thinking:
Uses clinical/ theoretical knowledge to analyze, investigate, interpret, and report lab data. Job Knowledge:
Maintains current personal training, education and practice of policies and procedures. Productivity:
Practices organizational skills for efficiency of time, materials, cost, and availability of lab data. Communication:
Practices information monitoring, investigation, resolution, and hand-off to team members. Performs other duties as assigned.

• Maintains acceptable accuracy in patient, quality assurance, proficiency, and competency testing.
• Meets department standard for correct patient or specimen identification.
• Meets department standard for error rate in testing or reporting patient or QC results.
• Consistently documents investigation and correct interpretation of QA failures or trends.
• Earns acceptable scores in proficiency testing and personnel competency testing.
• Maintains instrumentation for testing.
• Reports lab data accurately and within established turnaround times and productivity standards.
• Recognizes the relationship between lab data and clinical findings or expectations.
• Interprets information from multiple sources.
• Complies with Pending Log procedure for tracking laboratory test status.
• Documents in the LIS all elements of the Notification Value Call procedure.
• Hands off information to others according to the department procedure and chain of command.
• Adheres to Well Star’s Standards of Behavior in a consistent fashion.
• Takes personal responsibility for corrective action on constructive criticism.
• Contributes to the Laboratory’s Performance Improvements and inspection readiness.
• Assists in analysis of new methods for testing including correlations and procedure writing.
• Assists in inspection preparation.
• Participates in the Laboratory Performance Improvement initiatives.
• Practices cost-efficient work processes that maintain high quality laboratory data.
• Maintains current knowledge and practice of Well Star policies and procedures, including LIS.
• Demonstrates adequate knowledge of laboratory regulatory compliance.
• Practices all Well Star and Laboratory Safety Standards.
• Participates in meetings, committees, task forces and project teams.
• Completes monthly, quarterly, or yearly educational requirements.
• Complies with all Well Star Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

• Bachelors in Medical Technology or Other Bachelors

• MT(ASCP) - Medical Technologist
• MT(AMT) - Medical Technologist
• MT(AAB) - Medical Technologist
• MT(HEW) - Medical Technologist
• MLS(ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Scientist
• MLS(AMT) - Medical Laboratory Scientist

Persons who possess the technologist qualifications and have recently moved into the state and are certified by that state (with NY, FL, CA license) or have recently completed the academic and training/experience requirements from an accredited MLS program may be temporarily classified as technologists for eighteen (18) months to afford the persons an opportunity to successfully complete an approved qualifying examination within 1-1/2 Years Required and.

Minimum 1 year Laboratory experience Required.

Computer/data entry experience. Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team. Ability to use EXCEL, Word and have basic computer operational knowledge. Epic experience preferred.
