Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct nursing care to residents and supervising the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Supervision is carried out in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, and as required by the Director of Nursing to ensure the highest quality care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Oversee the day‑to‑day functions of the nursing assistants.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations concerning shift activities as required.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as needed.
- Provide leadership to nursing personnel assigned to your unit/shift.
- Complete and file required record‑keeping forms/charts upon resident admission, transfer, and/or discharge.
- Receive and transcribe telephone orders from physicians and record on the Physician’s Order Form.
- Chart nurse’s notes in an informative and descriptive manner reflecting the care provided and resident responses.
- Fill out accident/incident reports and submit to Director as required.
- Perform routine charting duties in line with established policies and procedures.
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter‑departmental personnel to ensure nursing services meet resident needs.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, keeping calm throughout the unit and shift.
- Receive/give nursing reports upon start and end of shift duties.
- Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
- Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, dressing changes, colostomy care, blood draws, massages, and range‑of‑motion exercises as required.
- Monitor personnel to ensure compliance with safety regulations regarding equipment and supplies.
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information.
- Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.
- Ensure all nursing care is provided in privacy and knock before entering a resident’s room.
- Provide IV and IV site care as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Registered Nurse with a current unencumbered state license.
- Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines pertinent to nursing care facilities.
- Current CPR Certification required.
- Experience in Long‑Term Care preferred.
- Be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Handle mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Meet general health requirements, including medical and physical examination.
- Be able to push, pull, move, or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- May be required to assist in resident evacuation during emergencies.
